Popular questions
What is DerDieDas?
DerDieDas is a platform with focused trainers for practising different parts of German. The goal is to turn regular practice into a clear picture of what you already know and what needs more attention.
Can I use DerDieDas without an account?
You can try the available trainers without registration in a limited guest mode. Create a free account to save progress and use personal learning features.
Which trainers are currently available?
Article Trainer and Meaning Trainer are available now. The other trainer cards show possible directions for future development, and their names or purpose may change. The Grammar Guide is also on the roadmap; no release dates are promised.
Where should I begin?
Choose Article Trainer to practise noun articles, or Meaning Trainer to study and recall word meanings. A short session with the default settings is a good place to begin.
Do I need to install anything?
No. DerDieDas runs in a modern web browser. Open the website, choose a trainer and start practising.
Why should I create an account?
A free account saves your learning progress and gives access to the Dictionary, activity, achievements and other personal features.
How can I change my display name or avatar?
After logging in, open Profile settings. There you can update your display name and upload, replace or remove your avatar.
How can I change my password?
Open Profile settings and then Security. Enter your current password and choose a new password.
Is password recovery available?
Automated password recovery is not currently available. Keep your password in a secure password manager.
Can I change the interface language?
Yes. Choose English, Deutsch, Français, Türkçe, Polski, Русский or Українська in Profile settings. Interface localization does not mean that every item of learning content is available in every language.
What can I do in Meaning Trainer?
Meaning Trainer includes Study and Practice in German to Meaning, Meaning to German, or both directions. Reviewed entries may include definitions, translations, examples and illustrations. The current content collection is limited and continues to grow; guest practice is limited and account progress is saved only after login.
What is the difference between Practice and Study mode?
Practice continues automatically after an answer. Study gives you time to review the feedback and waits for you to continue manually.
Which language levels can I train?
Article Trainer lets you combine the levels shown in its settings with topics, word statuses and a session goal. Hints and results support both Practice and Study workflows.
What do Unseen, New, Learning, Weak and Known mean?
Unseen means there is no saved practice yet. New means practice has only started. Learning means the skill is developing, Weak means recent results need more attention, and Known means the saved answers currently show a stable estimate rather than guaranteed mastery.
How do Word Status filters affect the word pool?
Selecting one or more statuses limits the session to words from those groups. When no status is selected, the other session settings determine which available words can enter the pool.
Which session goals are available?
You can train without a fixed limit, use a time goal or choose a target number of words. The available presets are shown directly in the trainer settings.
Which keyboard shortcuts can I use?
The number keys 1, 2 and 3 select der, die and das. When manual continuation is available, the Right Arrow moves to the next word. The trainer also shows the currently available shortcuts on screen.
What is the difference between Repeat Session and New Session?
Repeat Session starts another session with the same settings. New Session returns you to the settings so that you can choose a different level, status or goal.
Is progress saved when I train as a guest?
No. Limited guest sessions are not saved. For logged-in users, sessions, answers, word and skill progress, results, activity and achievements can be stored with the account.
Where can I see my saved words?
Logged-in users can open the Dictionary to search, filter and sort available nouns. It shows Article progress, Meaning recognition and recall, and an aggregate status. Custom sets and automatic transfer of one trainer's result to another are not supported.
What does the Overview page show?
Use session results, the trainer catalogue, Dictionary and Achievements to review progress. Overview adds Article Trainer activity, trends, recommendations and problem nouns; it is not yet a full Meaning Trainer overview.
How can I practise weak words again?
Article Trainer results and Overview can point to weak nouns, and you can select Weak in Article Trainer settings. There is no complete cross-trainer retraining workflow or dedicated Meaning Trainer problem set yet.
How are word statuses updated?
Word statuses are updated by rules based on saved correct and incorrect answers. New, Learning and Weak items may receive more attention, but this is not an AI system or a spaced-repetition scheduler.
Is DerDieDas free?
DerDieDas is currently free. Payments and paid subscriptions are not available. The future access model has not been promised, and no future prices are announced.
Can I use DerDieDas on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The interface is designed to adapt to desktop, tablet and mobile screen sizes.
